Welcome to our page.  Thanks for showing interest in our club.

The Chicago Uptown Lions Club is a service organization affiliated with Lions Clubs International.  Our chapter was founded in 1921 and is the second oldest club in the Chicago area.

Our areas of service are to the physical needs of out community, and to people with vision or hearing impairments. Our neighborhood of service is to the people of Edgewater and Uptown.

Our membership, men and women, is about 25 people, AND GROWING!   Members live in the following areas: Edgeater, Rogers Park, West Ridge, Bowmanville and Uptown. The ages of members range from 40 to a youthful 75. People of all ages are welcome, and we want more members.

We are having our GALA on Saturday March 14, 2015. The location is Furama Chinese Restaurant 4938 North Broadway and time time is 6 to 10PM. Our co-hosts are the current Miss Illinois who will sing and our own Steven Solomon who will be playing the piano. The theme of the event is the roaring 20s.

There is a sit down dinner followed by the concert. There is also a cash bar available. The cose is #35 in advance and $40 at the door. We could appreciate it if interested parties register as soon as possible. To register, call Lion Dave Anderson at 773-338-4435.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support the Chicago Boys and Girls Clubs, The Southeast Asia Center and the Lions of Illinois Foundation.

Our next general (dinner) meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 12. We will have a speaker from some area of interest.

As mentioned above, we have our monthly meetings. There is usually a speaker who can represent any of the following: Lions Zone and District officers, experts on the history of Edgewater and Uptown, elected officials of the City Council or General Assembly or US House of Representatives, employees of community social service agencies, and employees of agencies serving the blind or hearing impaired.

In October, we participate in Candy Day. In December, we participate in the Opening Eyes session at the United Center.

Our longest running activity is with recycled glasses and hearing aids. We have distributed boxes in the neighborhood at: optical shops, libraries, retail outlets and churches. Proceeds from this are sent overseas.

We recently started to have a food drive for our local food pantry, Care For Real. On a voluntary basis, our members bring a bag of canned good to the general meeting.

Some of our members volunteer as individuals. These places include Blind Service Association and CRIS Radio.
